Annual blood work is recommended for cats and dogs starting at the age of four. This provides us with the baseline values for the yearly testing we’ll do as your pet ages.
Most dogs and cats are considered to be entering their senior years at the age of 7. It is recommended that laboratory testing including CBC, chemistry panels, thyroid testing and urinalysis be performed annually. Additional testing may be required based on physical exam findings or abnormal laboratory results.
The benefit to performing these tests is that any abnormalities can be addressed before your pet exhibits signs of illness. This will lead to a longer, healthier life.
